About the Clinic
| Founded in 1932, the Children's Dental
Health Clinic (CDHC) is composed of an all-inclusive Main
Clinic, located within Miller Children’s Hospital at the Long
Beach Memorial Medical Center, and satellite locations in
Bellflower and Catalina Island. The
Children’s Dental Health Clinic provides quality dental care to
children of low-income families - services that would not
otherwise be available |
 |
to these infants,
children, adolescents and persons with disabilities. The CDHC is
dedicated to providing quality general and specialty dental treat-ment along
with oral hygiene education to children from economically
disadvantaged families in the Long Beach area. |
| The CDHC collaborates with medical service providers, local and
county governments, local school districts and their nurses, and numerous community-based
groups. Because the CDHC is a hospital-based dental clinic, it also
partners with numerous health organizations to provide emergency
dental treatment along with specialized care and education to
families and children of the community. Our partners
include: |
| The Stramski Children's Development Center
(which assists children with cleft
lip/palate and craniofacial anomalies and deformities; the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center; and the Pediatric/Family HIV Center.
These organizations are located at Miller Children’s Hospital in
Long Beach. |
 |
 |
The CDHC’s mission is to provide access to dental
treatment
for children who have no other recourse and to provide a
comprehensive, patient-friendly environment where children can receive
care on a continuum throughout childhood – from infancy through high
school. These patients receive care |
| through one of our many program
areas: basic dental care; oral hygiene; preventive dentistry;
multidisciplinary care, including endodontia, periodontia,
orthodontia, and oral surgery; or specialty care, including care for
children with physical, mental and/or emotional considerations, as
well as care for children under the age of five.
|
 |
| Last year, the CDHC provided dental service and education to over
10,000 children. The CDHC also doubled the hours of
operation at the the Avalon clinic to better meet the needs of
the communities |
 |
involved. The educational programs of the CDHC reach
many more children and their families through oral health activities at
clinic locations, local schools and community dental screenings. |
| The CDHC delivers quality services to those in need,
and provides
ongoing pediatric dental education for dentists and staff. The
Main Clinic is a training site for pediatric residents from the
University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry, the
Veterans Administration Hospital Endodontic residency program
and for dental assistant interns from area community
colleges. |

 |
Every day, the Clinic treats numerous children in dire need
of the specialized services we offer, and we have witnessed a rapid
rise in the requests for oral health
services. As area demographics change and grow, so does the demand for
the type of help we bring to the community. The Clinic relies on
your financial support to meet these pressing needs. |

The fundamental belief of the Children's Dental Health Clinic is
that every child deserves to smile!
