Oral health assessments in Paramount Schools begin Thanks to a grant from Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center. On Wednesday January 20th, over 250 kindergarten, first and second graders at Los Cerritos Elementary School in Paramount, received dental health education and oral health kits with a toothbrush, paste and timer. To increase oral health assessment participation, each child that returned a parental permission slip for oral health assessment received a ticket for “free dress day” at the school. As a result, 173 children from kinder, first and second grades received an oral health assessment and application of fluoride varnish. All children screened received a packet with a report of findings and referral resources to take home to their parents. Each packet also contained a brochure in English and Spanish with good information for parents regarding all aspects of children’s dental health. Maria, from Los Cerritos Elementary School provided wonderful school-support to our program--she made the day go amazingly well (rainy day schedule and all). Our CDHC Oral Health Education Team looks forward to visiting three other Paramount schools and providing over 1200 Left photo: Dental Hygienist Rosa delivering dental education to students at Los Cerritos Elementary School.
